Island Mountain is an eleven minute CD featuring Sharlene’s Island Mountain Suite.

This suite, originally written for two harps was commissioned by Island Mountain Arts of Wells, British Columbia for the turn of the millennium and premiered by Sharlene & Kim Robertson in August 2000 in Barkerville, BC.

The Suite reflects the stunning landscape and history of the Cariboo Mountains from the ever changing cloud shadows, to the Cariboo Wagon Road travelled in the 19th century by thousands of gold prospectors, to the Jack o’ Clubs Lake that lies quietly at the foot of Wells.

There is also a bonus track on this album of Alfredo Rolando Ortiz’s Merengue Rojo with Sharlene on harp and Sal Ferreras on percussion.

This three-part suite, originally written for two lever harps was commissioned by Island Mountain Arts of Wells, British Columbia for the turn of the millennium. My friend Kim Robertson and I premiered the Suite in August of 2000 down the road from Wells at St. Saviour’s Church, Barkerville.

On this CD: Sharlene Wallace – multi-tracked lever harp

    1. Clouds (3:29) – Shadows of ever-changing clouds pass over the Cariboo Mountains, creating rolling waves on the treetops below.

    2. The Cariboo Wagon Road, for my dad (2:03) – Thousands of gold prospectors from around the world travelled this route to Barkerville in the 1860s in search of golden dreams.

    3. Jack o’ Clubs Lake (1:05) – You have finally arrived in Wells when you catch a glimpse of thus picturesque mountain lake.
